But dreams come slow and they go so fast

I seem to be wanting to channel the 80's lately. There isn't any stopping it. Just like how everything I ate in October had to be pumpkin flavored... I can't even look at pumpkin muffins now! (kidding! I will eat ALL the pumpkin)

This outfit started off as something completely different and evolved into a much edgier look than I usually go. I was trying to find a way to wear this wonderful velvet cape I have from the 20's/30's but wanted to create a look that was a little dirtier than my go-to classic. Needless to say, a classic black velvet cape and grunge don't mix that well (at least I haven't discovered the secret!) so the antique was nixed for a teased side ponytail and a sheer, oversized blouse.

I suppose I needed to get away from my norm and it was certainly a fun change of pace! I had haphazardly thrown my hair up when I was trying on this purple blouse. It kind of worked so I just went with it. Needed a belt. And something underneath. Teased the hair and added a dark lip because why not. Yup, that's how it happened.

Wishing you all a happy new year!

I can't help myself

I know we aren't in the 80's but I saw this dress at a thrift store and I couldn't help myself... I can still wear it, right?

It got up to 55 degrees today! We have the craziest weather, it can never make up its mind- 'I'm going to be freezing and windy and nasty for a few weeks then give them a nice Thursday just to see if anyone is paying attention'. Anyway, it's certainly on purpose. I suppose I don't mind too much if I get days like this to take pictures in though! It was one of the few posts recently that I haven't been freezing in. Haha, I guess it doesn't make me any less crazy for going to a local park dressed like I'm going to a party! Oh well, with all the holiday festivities going on I thought a cocktail dress was appropriate, even if I don't have anywhere to wear it to :)

I am so in love with this color of blue and the floral print is so pretty, I just can't get enough! I did shorten the dress and removed the oversized bow that all these dresses had and am very pleased with the outcome. The whole thing reminds me of Alice in Wonderland, I feel like going on an adventure when I wear it!

Today was one last break before all the festivities, I'll try to get a post in next week but no promises!

Lots of love,
Eden

Chasing you, It's the only thing I want to do

Hey all, I'm orange and it's kind of awesome!

I've had the red hair for two years and I'm ready for a change so I've started the very slow transition from my lovely red to a (hopefully!) light blonde. The first bleach session (I hate saying that) was yesterday and turned into a pleasantly bright shade of orange.
Bleaching was hard because my hair was the healthiest it's ever been and I've been through the dried and fried routine before. Oh well, all things come to an end. And it's kind of fun trying something new. I can always go running back to red if I can't handle the pressure of getting to blonde from my bright color.

I really love neutrals and I wanted something subdued to balance out the hair. I adore silk and any will wear it any chance I get... even in winter (don't judge!). So when I opened up my closet and this skirt was right there, just begging to be tried on, I couldn't help myself. I paired it with a black cotton top so there wasn't anything competing with the hair.
Then my world collapsed (not really, but maybe a little)- I couldn't find shoes to match! These are a tad too fancy for the rest of the outfit. Ugh. Isn't that every girl's problem? NOT ENOUGH SHOES. Maybe I'll buy myself a new pair for Christmas...

Anyway, here's to hoping my coworkers don't freak about the orange at work tomorrow!

Now my life is sweet like cinnamon

This shoot was really a test to see if I was comfortable taking pictures in front of people. I chose a busy street in the heart of Old Town Alexandria and went in the height of the afternoon with all sorts of people walking by, commenting, and staring at me. It was nerve racking and I almost didn't keep it together but somehow I managed. So happy to get through that!

As for the outfit I got this lovely red-orange shirt at a local thrift store earlier this week and was looking for things to pair it with. It was a dull, overcast day so I wanted something that would brighten it all up. A purple skirt was just the thing. When picking shoes I grabbed these purple pumps and my immediate reaction was "Whoa, too much purple". But then I thought 'wait... you can't have too much purple!' and voila -an outfit was born.

I definitely celebrated with a cupcake from the little shop behind me after :)

So why don't we go somewhere only we know

This was a very fantasy inspired look, definitely not something I could get away with wearing on a daily basis but a lot of fun to put together!

While I was photographing a few deer came down to the creek to stare at me. I can only imagine what they were thinking- I mean, what kind of weird person takes pictures in the middle of their home? Probably hasn't happened that often in the past, I must be nuts. I'm kicking myself now for not getting pictures of them but you'll have to take my word for it- the whole experience was magical.

Have a good one and stay warm!

We don't look for heaven

I woke up early this morning to catch the sunrise at the harbor. It was simply breathtaking, I really need to get out more often- there are so many wonderful little things I’m missing out on every day.

Just let me live this fantasy

Hi all! I'm so excited to be starting this blog!! It's something I've wanted to do for such a long time but have postponed over and over. Well no more excuses - this is it. It will most certainly be a learning experience so please bear with me - I'm still learning!

For my first post I headed down to the local lake. The leaves are at their prime in bright new fall colors and it would have made me sad if I'd missed this chance to enjoy them.

I wanted to show off this adorable black circle dress I got a while back, I am still in love!

Traipsing around the woods in normal heels would have been hard but these timberland boots fit perfectly with the outfit. I’ve had them for years and they are probably my most comfortable heels - I was able to maneuver past the fallen trees and mud easily.

I guess you could say my first post is what I feel comfortable in - my dearest LBD and my favorite boots!

I did feel a little funny taking pictures while people walked past on the trail (I wasn't the only one who wanted to take advantage of the foliage!) but they left me alone for the most part so I got over it :)

All together it was a lovely day.

 Enjoy!
